Inquiry into the financial administration of homelessness services

The submission period for the Legislative Council Estimates Committee inquiry into the financial administration of homelessness services in Western Australia has closed.

Joint Submission

Shelter WA and the WA Alliance to End Homelessness will make a joint submission to the inquiry and have been granted an extension to provide our submission by Friday, 29 April 2022. The extension will allow us to incorporate findings of research undertaken by the Centre for Social Impact UWA (CSI UWA) on behalf of Shelter WA.

We will send a consultation paper to members providing an overview of the proposed scope of our submission and information about our current thinking around the inquiry Terms of Reference. The paper is intended as a consultation document, and we will be seeking member responses to the proposed key messages. We also welcome case studies from the sector under any of the Terms of Reference to support the submission.

Range of Responses

The Committee received 28 submissions these are on the inquiry webpage.

The submissions represent a wide range of responses to the Committee’s Terms of Reference from individuals, service providers, Local Governments, peak bodies and community legal centres, providing important insights into homelessness in Western Australia. The Department of Communities’ transcript from the Committee on Wednesday, 16 February 2022 and tabled documents are online.

It’s anticipated the Committee will hold more public hearings over the coming months.
