Centre for Social Impact Research into homelessness services funding

The Centre for Social Impact (CSI UWA) has been engaged by Shelter WA to undertake a research project to identify current funding to WA Homelessness Services.

It will identify current funding from government, the sector and other sources and to extrapolate current unmet need for homelessness services by region and across identified cohorts.

More information about the research is available here.

Research Findings

The research findings provide a robust evidence base and put our sector in a strong position to influence state and federal government decision-making on homelessness services funding and policy. In particular, they will be used in our submissions to the review of the National Housing and Homelessness Agreement and also the Legislative Council Estimates Committee inquiry into the financial administration of homelessness services in Western Australia.

Following ethics clearance in early March, CSI UWA sent a survey to specialist homelessness services providers seeking information on the type, mix and amount of funding for services to support people experiencing or at rick of homelessness, and how funding influences the delivery of services. The survey closes this week.

The next step of the research will be an analysis of the survey data and the collection of qualitative data through a number of focus groups and case studies.

Further Work

We are grateful to those services who were able to complete the survey during this busy time and we would appreciate your positive response to requests from CSI UWA to participate in interviews or focus groups to further inform this valuable research.
