Infrastructure Australia – Regional Strengths and Infrastructure Gaps report

Infrastructure Australia have released their inaugural Regional Strengths and Infrastructure Gaps report. The research is based on engagement with more than 1,000 stakeholders across 48 Regional Development Areas.

In WA, the regions include:

  • Goldfields-Esperance
  • Great Southern
  • Kimberley
  • Mid West Gascoyne
  • Peel
  • Pilbara
  • South West
  • Wheatbelt

The report identifies priority areas for future planning and highlights key infrastructure challenges and opportunities for each region. Infrastructure Australia hopes to encourage governments, industry and the community to come forward with solutions to address these challenges.

Affordable housing was one of the most frequently raised issues across regional Australia, with housing infrastructure identified as a top three infrastructure gap in more than half of WA’s regions. The report highlights the impact of these housing shortages on economic development and community building, with many regions struggling to accommodate workers and residents.

The Infrastructure Australia report can be found here.

Stakeholders are invited to provide feedback on the report, which will be incorporated into a refreshed document later in 2022. Feedback is sought by Friday, 29 April 2022.
