World Homeless Day: 10 October 2023

On Tuesday, October 10 2023 people around the world will observe World Homeless Day.

The concept of ‘World Homeless Day’ emerged from online discussions between people working to respond to homelessness from various parts of the world. The first time the day was marked was on Sunday, 10 of October 2010.

Awareness-raising Education

Homelessness is often associated with rough sleeping on the street or in a car, but homelessness also includes couch surfing, staying in boarding houses or other short-term accommodations.

You might feel homelessness is too complex to resolve, but progress IS being made. Geraldton is on track to cut the number of rough sleepers by 20 per cent in the next month. Geraldton has strong cohesion between various community service providers working to assist and eradicate homelessness, and the results are showing.

Homelessness Week Report

As the peak body for the community housing and homelessness sectors, Shelter WA coordinates Homelessness Week in Perth and in the regions in particular through this year’s theme “It’s time to end homelessness”, where we chose to shine a spotlight on the regions.

Our Homelessness Week report is a great way to see Shelter WA’s recommendations for ending homelessness right now. We encourage you to have a read and to enjoy seeing the amazing work being done by community organisations from Albany to Kununurra.
