Walk for Reconciliation at Kings Park
As National Reconciliation Week came to a close, staff from Shelter WA participated in the Walk for Reconciliation at Kaarta Koomba (Kings Park) on Friday, 2 June 2023.
The Walk for Reconciliation branched into three paths before joining at the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Memorial, Australia’s first state war memorial for Indigenous Australians. Staff opted to take the Walken Bidi (Rainbow Path), over the Yok Bidi (Women’s Path) and Maaman Bidi (Men’s Path).
With the sounds of singer-songwriter and Noongar Man Phil Walleystack guiding us the walk was a chance to connect to Boodja and celebrate the living Noongar culture.
Along the path was ‘Sea of Hands’ a symbol of solidarity with First Nations Peoples and a visual movement of support for countless events such as National Close the Gap Day, Reconciliation Week, and National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week.
