Non-judgmental service for over 40 years
| By Kath Snell, Chief Executive Officer – Shelter WA
While still in my first year as CEO at Shelter WA, I am trying my best to get out there to visit as many members as possible. It’s such an honour, and one of my absolute favourite parts of the job. Like everyone though, my biggest enemy is the ticking clock, and not enough hours in the day. So many competing priorities but if I have learnt anything in my first nine months of the role it’s that the face-to-face chat, on the ground, is worth a hundred phone or online calls.
Perth Inner City Youth Services
I booked in to see Andrew Hall, well known and respected leader in the sector, and CEO of Perth Inner City Youth Services, known to all as PICYS. From the moment you see the rainbow gate, and walk into the colourful space, it’s obvious that everyone who walks through these doors, is welcome. The house has been PICYS’ home for 40 years, and every room is decorated and styled with thought and consideration for its use, and for the people who will be spending time there.

[L-R] – Kath Snell, Shelter WA CEO & Andrew Hall, PICYS CEO
PICYS has been offering a safe and non-judgemental service to support young people for decades, and its this inclusion and acceptance that really shines.
I could have stayed all day, and I have no doubt Andrew could have talked all day, with passion and dedication to the organisation he so clearly has such a fierce fondness for. He’s bursting with ideas, and I left there invigorated.
Member Visit
If you are a Shelter WA Member and I am yet to have the pleasure of meeting with you, please organise with Polina via email here for me to come and visit, but please be patient, the time gods are not always kind.
