International Day of People with Disability

Shelter WA is proud to announce that the team over at the Building Tenancy Skills project have successfully acquired a grant to assist them in hosting an event for International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD).

The grant is funded by the Department of Communities and managed by Developmental Disability WA. IDPwD is celebrated annually on Sunday, 3 December and supported by the United Nations. The day endeavours to enhance public awareness, understand and embrace individuals with disabilities while also celebrating their achievements and contributions.

“My Life, Our Community”

The WA theme for 2023 is “My Life, Our Community” which aims to promote the fundamental right of individuals with disabilities to make choices about their own lives. There are an estimated 411,500 people living in Western Australia with disabilities.

The event hosted by the Building Tenancy Skills project team is set to take place on Wednesday, 6 December. To fit in with the theme, the team will be using the event to unveil new video resources that have been filmed as part of the project. Guest speakers will also be in attendance to discuss the importance of assisting and supporting tenants with disability in renting their homes.
