Interim R-Codes

R-Codes control the design of most residential development throughout Western Australia.

The interim review of SPP 7.3: Residential Design Codes – Volume 1 (R-Codes), part of the State Government’s planning reforms to assist with the COVID-19 economic recovery, has resulted in a series of amendments to the R-Codes.

Streamlining Approvals

These are aimed at supporting the residential building industry, local governments, and homeowners by simplifying clauses and streamlining approval processes for low to medium density housing projects.

The approved amendments can be viewed on the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage website and will become operational on Friday, 2 July 2021, to allow stakeholders, including local government, the residential building industry, and homeowners, a transitional period to adjust to the amended provisions.

The Department will be hosting two information sessions about the changes (attended online or in-person) on Wednesday, 21 April and Tuesday, 27 April 2021 from 10:00am-11:00am.

You can register online if you wish to attend, in person or online.
