By-Name List Data – August 2023
The most recent data from the By-Name List has just been released.
For the month of August 2023, in the Perth metropolitan area the data showcases 98 (86 in July) newly identified people experiencing homelessness.
A total of 1,105 individuals who were either sleeping rough or accessing temporary shelter (this figure includes 98 individuals who have been newly identified). Among those listed, 47 percent have case management support, and 12 individuals were successfully placed into permanent housing.
Sadly, two deaths were recorded during August, and we would like to acknowledge the passing of those two individuals.
Among the 12 individuals who secured permanent housing, the distribution includes three individuals who have been allocated public housing and four individuals placed into community housing, the rest includes aged care options, return to family, supported long-term accommodation or boarding by choice.
Youth Representation
Nghia Luong, the Senior Project Officer (Data Lead) at the WA Alliance to End Homelessness, highlighted efforts in re-engaging youth organisations.
“Our data caveat states that families and young people are known to be underrepresented on the By-Name List,” Mr Luong said.
“Significant progress has been made in re-engaging past youth organisations and new ones including the Salvation Army Youth Services WA and Transitional Support Service, Home Stretch and MercyCare. The number of children and young people added to the By-Name List is not due to an increase in homelessness in youth cohorts but is due to the AtoZ work to improve engagement with youth services.”
