Best Tenant Led initiative
Shelter WA’s ‘Building Tenancy Skills Project’ has won best Tenant Led Initiative at the 2023 ahi: Brighter Future Awards.
Nominations for best Tenant Led Initiative were open to individuals or a group of residents/tenants who have undertaken a project or initiative to benefit others in their community.
Co-design Model
The model led by Shelter WA Project Manager Donna Turner in partnership with People with Disabilities WA Inc (PWdWA) has codesigned resources with Circle Green, the Financial Counsellors Association of WA, Consumer Protection and Developmental Disability WA to help prevent evictions and reduce the risk of homelessness for people with disability who are renting.
The resources are used in the Renting with Confidence Workshop which has now been delivered 26 times statewide as part of the project. Further Workshops will be delivered until April 2024.

Great Recognition
Shelter WA Project Manager of the Building Tenancy Skills Project Donna Turner says the win is great recognition of the “practical knowledge and wisdom of tenants with disabilities”. “Looking forward to facilitating more Renting with Confidence Workshops and codesigning more tenancy resources together,” Donna said.
“Practical knowledge and wisdom of tenants.”
If you would like to make this Workshop available to tenants, please contact Donna. The project has been independently evaluated and feedback from other tenants has been incredibly positive. The Workshop is offered at no cost to tenants or organisations.
