If so, the Department of Communities wants to hear from you!

SHERP Grants

The Department’s $92.8 million Social Housing Economic Recovery Package (SHERP) Grants Program is now open, and providers of social housing are encouraged to apply.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to keep checking the FAQ document and to please get in contact with Grants Program staff to discuss their applications.

Registered and non-registered community housing organisations (CHOs), local government authorities (LGAs) and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), Aboriginal incorporated organisations and Aboriginal businesses will be eligible to apply for one or more of the following categories:

New Construction Projects

  • $33 million available to registered CHOs and LGAs.
  • Funds to be expended and works completed by December 2024.

Refurbishments to existing Community Housing Properties

  • $46.5 million available to CHOs and LGAs with an existing service agreement with the Department of Communities and LGAs.
  • Funds to be expended and works completed by December 2024.

Remote Aboriginal Community Maintenance Projects

  • $13.3 million available for remote Aboriginal community maintenance.
  • Funds to be expended and works completed by December 2022.

Applications

Applications for the Social Housing Economic Recovery Package Grants Program officially opened on Wednesday, 1 September 2021, with a closing date of Wednesday, 27 October for refurbishments and Tuesday, 30 November 2021 for new construction projects. Remote Aboriginal community maintenance grants will remain open until funding has been expended.
