Confirming the pain felt by many people in the private rental market, the latest release of the Rental Affordability Index (RAI) reveals that rents across Western Australia remain unaffordable for many West Australians, in particular for people on low incomes.
Renting in Australia is not a one-size-fits-all experience. Shelter WA has sought case studies to coincide with the release of this year’s Rental Affordability Index (RAI).
National Shelter, Bendigo Bank, the Brotherhood of St Laurence, and SGS Economics and Planning will be releasing the Rental Affordability Index in December 2020.
The Rental Affordability Snapshot is designed to highlight the lived experience of looking for housing while on a low income.
This year’s index reveals that rents still remain extremely unaffordable for very low- and low-income households in Western Australia.
