New DoC Structure

I am writing to advise you about some important changes to the Department of Communities.

With the benefit of having trialed new ways of working during our response to COVID and with WA now looking towards the recovery phase of this pandemic I have implemented the new leadership structure – to provide clear lines of accountability while ensuring integrity remains the bedrock of everything we do.

Communities Structure

The Communities structure will be organised into seven divisions:

• Governance Integrity and Reform
• Aboriginal Outcomes
• Strategy and Partnerships,
• Community Services
• Assets
• Chief Finance Officer, and
• Chief People Officer.

Organisational Chart

The organisational chart will help explain these new lines of reporting (link). I would ask you to look at the slides to understand how our existing functions are organised under these seven areas.

The second phase of this restructure will see the transition of Disability Services as well as the finalisation of a review of the responsibilities falling under Strategy and Transformation to ensure they are best accommodated with the new divisions.

This streamlined structure will ensure I have appropriate lines of sight of critical areas and has also been designed to be intuitive and easy to navigate for staff; our partners; stakeholders and the people we serve.

Aboriginal Outcomes

It is vital that Communities demonstrates that we have heard and are taking action on Aboriginal outcomes and for that reason the recently formed Cultural Council will guide and inform everything that we do.

We must ensure we are a modern, accountable institution worthy of the trust of the people of Western Australia.

Engaging Staff

As we go through this process together we will continually focus on engaging staff. These conversations are already underway.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you all once again for your work and the support you have shown in past months.

I am confident that this new structure will provide the foundations we need for Communities to move into the future.

If you have any questions I encourage you to contact a member of Communities leadership team to discuss.

Kind regards,

Michelle Andrews
