Launching ShelterWA’s Pre-Budget Submission 2024-25
This week Shelter WA was proud to release our third Pre-Budget Submission (PBS) in full! You can read our PBS, our media releases, and catch some behind the scenes snapshots from this incredibly busy time here.
We’re so grateful to have Shelter WA Chair Kieran Wong and WA Alliance to End Homelessness Executive Officer David Pearson join us for the launch.

“I think it’s fair to say that we’re facing one of the worst housing crises that Western Australia and our nation has ever lived through, and the stories that are being shared in the news on a regular basis and amongst our nation are devastating. It’s important to note that our members represent many, many organisations with frontline workers, and they are both overwhelmed and stretched beyond breaking point in the system.
ShelterWA is releasing this Pre budget submission to support many things, including the government’s own action plan to end rough sleeping by 2025, and to work out some of the more targeted ways to address cost of living impacts being felt across WA.
Budgets embody both the values and priorities of government, and any budget is about choices. This budget is a critical one in the face of what is a rapidly growing housing emergency, and we just can’t afford not to invest in safe, affordable housing for everyone.” – ShelterWA Chair Kieran Wong, PBS launch 27 March 2024.
This launch completes a busy month where we’ve released three separate packages of initiatives from the PBS, with really great coverage across all channels. In case you missed them, here’s all four media releases we’ve issued over our PBS push!
Shelter WA releases budget submission as new data shows homelessness at record high – 27 March 2024

We’re so grateful for the genuine care and passion our friends in the media landscape are showing for our sector. And of course, our thanks to you, our members and supporters for the work you’re all doing in the community, in such challenging and distressing circumstances.
We’ve also been incredibly proud to secure some significant new initiatives in just the last few months. These include the new $50m Community Housing fund for the regions and of course the $24m Rent Relief scheme.
We now look forward to the State budget being released in mid-May, and we’ll continue to be strong and proud advocates urging the Cook government to deliver a housing and homelessness budget in May.
