Shelter WA is the peak body for housing and homelessness in Western Australia. We bring together individuals, organisations and communities to improve housing outcomes for all.
Homelessness Week is a national campaign held in the first week of August. In 2025, the theme is Homelessness Prevention, with a national focus on First Nations Homelessness.
Shelter WA has proudly coordinated Homelessness Week events across WA for over a decade. These events bring together sector partners, government, local councils, and people with lived experience to highlight housing issues and drive systemic change.
For Homelessness Week 2025, we are hosting three key events, all aligned with our theme of Homelessness Prevention and the national focus on First Nations homelessness. These events are designed to spark collaboration, share best practice, and generate practical resources to inform future work across sectors.
Wednesday August 6, 2025
An interactive workshop and forum-style event highlighting the theory and application of homelessness prevention strategies, both in Western Australia and in other jurisdictions.
Special focus will be given to First Nations considerations in homelessness prevention, drawing on culturally responsive practice and self-determined approaches.
This forum will showcase best practice examples and insights from across the country. Findings will be captured and distributed to organisations and government, and summarised into a practical resource to inform advocacy, strategy, and program development in Western Australia.
Wednesday August 13, 2025
A targeted and interactive workshop for local governments across WA, focusing on their vital role in homelessness prevention and supporting people sleeping rough.
The workshop will feature national experts on local government and homelessness and aims to conceptualise what homelessness prevention looks like for local governments in Western Australia and collate best practice examples from councils.
Shelter WA will develop a resource following the event — such as a compendium, toolkit or policy paper — capturing best practice and actionable recommendations. This resource will also serve as a valuable advocacy tool ahead of the WA local government elections in October 2025.
Wednesday July 30, 2025
Designed to centre lived experience and elevate community voice, this forum brings together people who have experienced homelessness alongside sector leaders.
The focus is on learning, listening, and co-designing better outcomes.
Sponsoring Shelter WA’s Homelessness Week events is a powerful opportunity to position your organisation as a leader in supporting housing justice and systems reform in Western Australia.
The events are designed for sector professionals, peak bodies, government representatives, service providers, and people with Lived Experience, who are driving real change in the housing and homelessness space.
By supporting this work, you will:
Your support will directly contribute to the co-design of practical resources such as toolkits and policy documents that have real potential to shape practice and policy across WA.
This is more than a sponsorship — it’s a partnership in progress toward ending homelessness in our state.
