Cyclone Ilsa evacuation centres
The Department of Communities work alongside the Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA to prepare and manage evacuation centres in the Pilbara.
For rough sleepers and for people in vulnerable accommodation who will be impacted by Cyclone Ilsa, evacuation centres have been established.
If a Red Alert is current in your area you are in danger and need to act immediately.
❗ WHAT TO DO ❗
– Shelter indoors now. It is too late to leave.
– Stay in the strongest, safest part of the building.
– Stay away from doors and windows, and keep them closed.
– Keep your emergency kit with you.
– Stay indoors until the ALL CLEAR is given by authorities.

Cyclone Updates
The best place to find information is via the Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA Facebook page. ABC Radio Pilbara is providing emergency coverage.
Power
During a cyclone, unplug all electrical appliances and turn off the gas supply. Please call Horizon Power on 13 23 51 to report any faults, outages or electrical infrastructure that looks to be damaged. Horizon Power reminds everyone to stay at least 10m away from all overhead and underground power supplies. Fallen power lines and damaged electrical infrastructure may appear harmless, but could be live and potentially dangerous.
Local Response Teams have been set up in the Kimberley and Pilbara, ready to respond to any potential damage to electrical infrastructure.
Water
Your water supply and wastewater services may be disrupted during, or after, a tropical cyclone. This means you may have low water pressure, or no water supply available, due to damage to infrastructure or power outages affecting equipment and systems. If there is a loss of power, wastewater can’t be pumped to the treatment plants resulting in overflows from pump stations and manholes in the street. If there is floodwater present, assume it is contaminated and avoid contact with it, as it may contain various contaminants and harmful pathogens. Water Corporation encourages the community to prepare an emergency water supply. Drinking water should be stored in clean, food-grade sealed containers.
If you’re asked to evacuate your home, it is important to turn off your water supply using the stopcock located on your water meter. This will ensure your property is isolated from the water supply. Water Corporation is available 24/7 on 13 13 75 to help with any urgent issues, such as damaged water meters and faults resulting from a cyclone.
