55 Central’s Grow and Grind Project – a Homelessness Week 2023 Grant Recipient Story
In 2023, Shelter WA, with the support of Lotterywest funding, offered an opportunity for homelessness sector members to apply for funding for an event, project or initiative as part of Homelessness Week.
55 Central were one of 20 plus grant recipients and they used their Shelter WA Homelessness Week 2023 Grant funds to serve coffee via their Grow and Grind project at three locations during the week in August. Many people were able to enjoy free coffee at St Pats, Ruah and Uniting WA.
Since August last year, 55 Central and Grow and Grind have also
-
- supported 12 new participants from women’s refuges to successfully complete their course and become certified baristas
- employed 2 new participants on the Grow and Grind van
- assist one participant in securing a job in the community, and
- Grow and Grind secured new coffee runs at St John of God (SJOG) Hospital in Midland and also at Maylands Primary School
The Shelter WA team are delighted to share this update from 55 Central with you to show a little behind the scenes of the difference being made with the Grow and Grind project since the 2023 Homelessness Week Grant was awarded.
Thank you 55 Central and the Grow and Grind team and community for allowing us to share this story with the Shelter WA community. We loved the images you sent through and we are sure they will be inspiring to other groups and organisations in the community supporting the homelessness sector.
