The State Government, through a Lotterywest grant has provided support for Homelessness Week 2019.
The presentation of these funds from Mr John Carey MLA, Member for Perth took place at Shelter WA.
The grant supports twenty-four separate events across Western Australia, supporting a variety of organisations who are holding their own events and exhibitions that align with the Home Safe Home theme of Homelessness Week and contribute to a strategic agenda of ending homelessness, not just managing it. With this support, Shelter WA established a grant program and called for expressions of interest from community groups. Grants of up to $2,000 per organisation were made available for local events.
“We have one simple focus, and one goal and that is to end homelessness in Western Australia,”Mr Carey
“It’s about refocussing our efforts, getting the community involved but also providing a voice to homeless people to tell their stories.”
This years Home Safe Home theme provides a focus of seeing that ending homelessness isn’t simply about providing shelter, it is about providing a home where someone is and feels safe, something that most West Australians take for granted every single day, along with the services that may be needed by people to stay in their home.
