Housing plays a critical role in the health and wellbeing of Australians.
Affordable and safe housing can help people avoid housing stress, which improves household wellbeing.
In 2019–20, just over 800,000 Australians lived in social housing in over 436,000 dwellings across the country. The majority (69%) of social housing dwellings were public housing stock and Community Housing (24%) with increasing numbers in community housing.
In WA, in 2020 there were,
- 43,113 social housing dwellings
- housing, 41,700 households
- with 82,907 occupants throughout 2019-20.
In 2020, most (32,360) social housing dwellings met the standard for occupancy requirements. There were 4,924 dwellings that were considered to be underutilised and 1,365 dwellings that were considered to be overcrowded.
