Older women are the fastest growing cohort of people experiencing homelessness.
The Housing for the Aged Action Group (HAAG) is a Victoria-based community advocacy organisation committed to improving housing outcomes for older Australians.
HAAG recently released an advocacy toolkit that provides advice and guidance on raising the issue of older persons homelessness with federal politicians and candidates in the lead up to the federal election. The toolkit includes a simple guide to arranging a meeting with your federal representatives as well as a template to use when writing to your local MP.
The toolkit also includes a link to At Risk 2021: Older women facing homelessness in Australia, from awareness to action, HAAG’s call to action. HAAG is calling for urgent policy reform to fix the housing system for older Australians including through increasing the availability of safe, affordable and appropriate housing for older women and greater investment in service systems to support older women.
