Shelter WA, WACOSS and other peak bodies are working together to influence policies put forward by political parties in the lead up to the State Election in March 2017.
Shelter WA focus during the campaign will be primarily be on 'Housing & Homelessness', but will also be supporting the other peaks in their activities. Over the 6 - 12 February 2017, Shelter WA will be promoting our message strongest, with a Political Forum, social media campaign, and through other media opportunities.
The importance of housing in everyone’s life is clear and obvious – it is one of the basic human needs and is necessary to well-being and development.
The elements of secure housing include affordability, security of tenure, desirability and safety of location, and the physical condition of the dwelling itself.
By providing safe and secure housing, with the right type of support, we not only provide people with the capacity to achieve positive life outcomes (which is more than enough reason in and of itself), but the need for other services is considerably reduced, thus delivering significant savings to the State.
Housing assistance provides a pathway to independence for those experiencing homelessness or in housing stress, enhances the health, education, and employment of people and families and enables economic participation in society.
